I'm a dreamer, of travel, of colorful surroundings and of interesting people or experiences and realism..
I love sunsets and get mesmerized by cloud formations, foggy landscapes, or trees with character.
Great lighting on any subject delights me and as well as all shades of blue. :))
I have always drawn and will grab a pencil any chance I get..
I was 35 before I picked up a brush to paint. 43 before I got paid to use it!
I love a fresh clean white surface, it invigorates me with possibilities.
I work in a great home studio with my trusty art critic/supporter, "Bacio" in the rural countryside of Virginia.
He's usually sizing up my art work from my lap or wondering why he's not on my lap?
I've been known to paint in my PJ's and get so lost in a piece, I work late into the night. With a little help from a good cup of Joe ;))
My husband Tom, 3 sons and 3 grandchildren add to my support staff. They are great "free" models, eager travel mates and IT support!
I love to look deeply to observe the most everyday things.
Traveling outside of my local area delights me and keeps my mind full of future paintings. France, Italy, and Caribbean destinations are among my favorite places.
Traveling in my own country continues to bring opportunities to capture the US for others enjoy also.
The joy sketching a trip gives me, makes travel all the more memorable and adds to my never ending list to draw and paint..
Stop by my blog and see some of my travels and journaling.
I'm pleased to have been accepted as a member of the International Guild of Realism. I exhibit at Crossroads Art Center as a resident artist as well as other venues in and around Virginia with the Colored Pencil Society both Nationally and in Washington DC. I'm a local member and exhibit with the Bon Air Artists Assoc. in Richmond VA.
I'm currently looking for gallery representation that appreciates alternative archival media and my representational style.
I enjoy sharing the how to's of my style working in colored pencil in small intimate classes in my home studio.
Every January I promote my students work in my exhibition space at Crossroads Art Center. For many it's their first art show, and boy how I love seeing the pride on their faces! ;))
I believe anyone can learn to draw, it's all in the joyful practice!
Three of my paintings have been featured in The Encyclopedia of Colored Pencil (2016 printing - a rereleased version of the 1998 book). Available through this Amazon Link. https://amzn.to/3piCK1y
My work has been published in North Light Books "Strokes of Genius" Volume #6 and in the Best of Worldwide Artists Working In Pencil and Pastels 2010.
I've had the pleasure of my article on Plein Air Painting in Colored Pencil published in Colored Pencil Magazine May 2014. As well as a featured painting "Jingle Bells" in Ann Kullberg's CP Magazine Dec. 2012.
See below for a full Bio of my Solo and Juried Shows, I love to share what I've done.

Gloria has shown her vibrant colored pencil paintings Nationally with the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, and the American Professional Artists League, both in NYC) and Internationally in CPSA juried shows. As well as in and around the state of Virginia and the southern east coast in juried exhibitions. Having won awards for her colored pencil paintings in many of these shows. Her work is being published in the North Light book "Strokes of Genius Vol. 6" in the fall of 2014; published in Colored Pencil Magazine, May 2014; then published in the 2012 Dec. issue of CP Magazine; and also in the 2010 book “Best of Worldwide Artists - Charcoal, Pastel & Pencil Vol. I”. Her painting “English Garden Foxglove” was selected for the 2009 Scribbletalk.com’s Annual Calendar, by the online membership.
Gloria has taught workshops for the Art Educators of PA, sponsored by Lyra Pencil Co. and locally in the Richmond, VA area. She enjoys speaking to various art groups about her favorite medium, colored pencil and it’s growing place in fine art. Gloria teaches weekly classes in her studio throughout the year.
Gloria has been accepted into the International Guild of Realism as a member. Gloria is a signature member of the National Colored Pencil Society (CPSA) & it’s local chapter DC#109 in Washington, DC. Locally she is a member of the Bon Air Artists Association and the VA Plein Air Painters, She is a past member of the American Professional Artists League. Gloria is also an artist in residence at the Crossroads Art Center where her paintings are on exhibit and may be purchased. She is represented by Crossroads art Center, Buy RVA Art, West End Gallery, in Richmond, VA and an online exhibitor of Xanadu Gallery, in Scottsdale, AZ.
Like many artists her love of art started in childhood. She has a degree in Accounting from John Tyler Community College. Working in accounting for more than 20 years and raising a family occupied her early life. Although she creatively worked with fiber, ceramics and landscaping at home she dreamed of making art. As Gloria’s 3 sons grew, she finally was able to pursue decorative painting classes. This led to over 11 years of decorative, mural and faux painting in her free time.
Wanting to make a career change, she became skilled in watercolor and became a contract colorist for a major national art print company. For nine years Gloria worked for this art publishing company doing hand colored, antique reproduction engravings in watercolor. All the while she strived to educate herself in drawing techniques with an emphasis on botanical, still life and portrait art in her free time. Which led to a discovery of colored pencil as a media in late 2005. Falling in love with the control, detail and realism that can be achieved with this medium. Gloria is one of very few colored pencil artists who work "En Plein Air" (in the open air), to create finished paintings.
The Artist grade and Lightfast pigments within the pencils she uses, produce fine art paintings on board panels which are varnished like oil paintings. Gloria’s colored pencil paintings have been said to resemble oil, acrylic and or watercolor paintings. Striving for a painterly appearance, Gloria’s techniques of layering the pencils give her paintings translucent results.
Gloria has now added Oil paintings to her portfolio, and she is excited to have a brush back in her hands! (Having worked in watercolor and acrylics in the past.)
